www.greendimes.com stops unwanted junk mail. You can eliminate up to 90% of junk mail. What does this have to do with Celiac or gluten-free living? Nothing… it’s just my “green” side coming out, again! My youngest brother calls me a “hippie” & I’m just trying to live up to the name!

The new Desert Essence Organics line is 100% Vegan & Wheat & Gluten-free! I’ve actually been using their body products from this line for the last year and have been pretty happy! It’s one thing I was happy that I didn’t need to change in our gluten-free quest! They offer body washes (their red grape smells good enough to eat!), body lotions & hands & feet (their foot lotion is great!), shampoos & skin care. They don’t have a huge selection of skin care products but this line is pretty new & I’m guessing that as more time goes by, they’ll have more products to offer. Happy Shopping!

On Sunday we went to the Farmers Market in Hollywood then decided we’d drive down to Culver City and visit The Sensitive Baker, which is a Gluten-Free bakery. They have all sorts of goodies: cupcakes, cookies, breads, bagels, pizza dough, hamburger buns & during the weekday hours, they even offer lunch which ranges from their daily soups, to pizza & sandwiches. They have a large variety of vegan foods as well. When we walked in the lady who was working there (I’m going to guess she was the owner) offered our son, Aiden, a cookie but asked us first, which I thought was really cool. Aiden ate all of it except for the last few bites which he dropped because he was too busy wanting a cupcake that was on display! We bought a cupcake to take home for Aiden & some hamburger buns for us to try out later that night. Ryan had made some home made avocado salsa & we thought the burgers topped with his salsa sounded like a good idea. Wow. Those buns were so good. They were very similar to sourdough bread. The only negative was that they were kind of small & we really wanted more! We also bought their pizza dough that we have yet to try… maybe later on this week. Pretty cool place. They are also online, if you want to check them out: The Sensitive Baker
I’ll leave you with a picture of Aiden about to enjoy his cupcake!

Afterglow Cosmetics is a mineral make-up company that offers organic, natural make-up & every product they make is gluten-free! Yay! My Mom (since she’s with the boys so much) and I just ordered some mascara, eye liner & some lipstick samples to try. I’m so excited & can’t wait to get my hands on these. I’ve heard rave reviews about them & I really like the comfort in knowing that I don’t have to look this product up on a list of their GF products because they’re ALL GF! I don’t wear very much make up but I DO enjoy a little blush, mascara & some lipstick if I’m going somewhere special. Here’s their information on WHY they’re all GF: Click here.
I’ll write a review as soon as the shipment comes in. Yay!

The lactivist always comes out in me when I see a news article about breastfeeding. CNN just reported that more than 3 out of 4 new Moms breastfeed! Not only is breast best but it’s incredibly important for babies with the potential of having Celiac or colitis or something of it’s relative. I breastfed Aiden for 2.5 years (had I only known- I would’ve been GF then) & plan on nursing Milo for at least as long. I am GLUTEN-FREE to protect Milo in case he does have Celiac like his older brother(& because I enjoy being GF with my boys!- I don’t want to be left out ). There is a good chance Milo will have it. It’s very common for siblings, cousins, etc. to all have the Celiac disease or at least carry the gene. Here’s a link to the recent article on breastfeeding: Article
It has nothing to do with Celiac disease but thought it was worth mentioning!

California Baby is my favorite when it comes to gluten-free products for the boys! They’re one of the only companies whose entire list of products are GF! Fortunately they’re the products that I’ve always used on Aiden, so it was the one thing in our house that we didn’t have to change! They’re completely natural, organic choices for your little ones. Their sun-block is my favorite! It’s thick, smells great & works wonderful & is of course GF!

I found two new Yahoo! groups that are loaded with information. One of the big benefits of the internet is the ability to bring people together. Whether you or a loved one has Celiac Disease, these two groups are great for answering your questions, great for venting & great for support. SillyYaks has a huge assortment of lists, for example… restaurant guides & candy lists, etc. KidswithCeliac is great for parents looking for support or helpful suggestions on how to deal with all sorts of issues, for example… how to deal with a birthday party, school functions, family events, etc. You need to sign up for a yahoo account to be able to participate in both these groups but that’s free & it only takes a minute!

A co-worker of my Mother-in-law’s mentioned these & now I want some!!!! Is anyone else interested in ordering some of these? If we get enough of an order (over $40), we can get free shipping & a reduced cost in the bags. I can place the order for us all in one & can distribute them out (if you live locally to myself) when they’re shipped to me. Any takers? Let me know by Tuesday (April 22nd), Earth Day by 11 am!
