Last week while I was standing in the check out aisle at Whole Foods, I noticed a magazine that I hadn’t seen there before. Maybe it’s been there for awhile now but for some reason, I had never seen it. It’s called “Living Without” and it’s a magazine dedicated to people with food allergies or for someone with Celiac disease or even for someone who parents a child with autism who chooses the casein & gluten free lifestyle. I, of course had to purchase it since I didn’t have enough time to look through it in it’s entirety in line. It actually was a really cool little mag. It had a lot of gluten free recipes, a great article with a GI Dr. who specializes in Celiac & other articles in relation to food allergies. I was happy to have found it & look forward to buying a subscription to it in the future.

I came across a website www.deliciousandhealthy.com that focuses on a gluten-free & dairy-free lifestyle. The website was created by Dr. Meg Haworth. Dr. Haworth has been living gluten-free for 13 years. She offers a bi-weekly newsletter with great cooking tips & advice, great recommendations, featured recipes & a note from her. It’s just another great resource loaded with gluten-free & dairy-free knowledge. I feel like the more I have in my back pocket, the easier & better our lives become. This is also a great resource to share with friends & family. The more that your loved ones know, the easier it is for you! Check it out, sign up & enjoy the benefits of information being delivered to your inbox!

The lactivist always comes out in me when I see a news article about breastfeeding. CNN just reported that more than 3 out of 4 new Moms breastfeed! Not only is breast best but it’s incredibly important for babies with the potential of having Celiac or colitis or something of it’s relative. I breastfed Aiden for 2.5 years (had I only known- I would’ve been GF then) & plan on nursing Milo for at least as long. I am GLUTEN-FREE to protect Milo in case he does have Celiac like his older brother(& because I enjoy being GF with my boys!- I don’t want to be left out
). There is a good chance Milo will have it. It’s very common for siblings, cousins, etc. to all have the Celiac disease or at least carry the gene. Here’s a link to the recent article on breastfeeding: Article
It has nothing to do with Celiac disease but thought it was worth mentioning!

Glutenfreechecklist.com provides the consumers with the ability to sort each of the checklists by food category, manufacturer and gives options to buy the product online! Shoppers also have the ability to create and print their own shopping list! Consumers can also learn more about these products and find out where to buy them through direct websites links to manufacturers and store locators.

I found two new Yahoo! groups that are loaded with information. One of the big benefits of the internet is the ability to bring people together. Whether you or a loved one has Celiac Disease, these two groups are great for answering your questions, great for venting & great for support. SillyYaks has a huge assortment of lists, for example… restaurant guides & candy lists, etc. KidswithCeliac is great for parents looking for support or helpful suggestions on how to deal with all sorts of issues, for example… how to deal with a birthday party, school functions, family events, etc. You need to sign up for a yahoo account to be able to participate in both these groups but that’s free & it only takes a minute!

NewChapter Organic Vitamins are all naturally gluten-free, according to their website. I also double checked, by emailing to verify and they confirmed that they are indeed gluten-free! I ordered some of their pre-natal vitamins from iHerb.com & they arrived the next day! So far, so good. The reviews couldn’t be better. They come in a glass bottle (which I like) and are made from whole foods. If you buy them from iHerb.com, use the code: LAD512 for $5 off of your order! They’re not just great because they’re gluten-free but also because they’re using high quality organic whole foods! They also have a very large assortment of vitamins & vitamin/herbal combinations for all sorts of needs!

My mother-in-law alerted me that the Today Show on NBC did a special on Gluten Free living.
Epicurious’ ultimate gluten-free guide
Also, here’s another link that talks about the FDA’s proposal for voluntary gluten-free standards on labeling! This is something that is very important to myself & I’m sure most anyone will a food related disease or allergy!
FDA may help!
And one more link to the www.foodallergybuddy.com! This site is pretty cool. It helps you print out allergy information cards to pass out to managers or chefs at a restaurant (or somewhere else they might be serving foods at) to help eliminate the back & forth between the managers, servers & chefs!
Good looking out, GramsMomCinda! Thanks!
